A few of these are off brand graded cards. I actually paid much less for those than raw cards. Got them all from the same guy. I think a few of them are fake too. Not the cards, just the grades as the website for this company said they had never issued a 10. Oh well.

Given 'em away continues

New York Jets..Can I pay you for postage??

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, Jets are yours. you can if you choose, but it isn't required. I ask for nothing in return and certainly don't expect anything.

Football is sorted. I am out of boxes, so I will pick some up at the card shop tomorrow and get all the cards sent out in the next week or so.

Jeff

Don't forget to email me your address if you haven't already.

Given 'em away

Aron

This is open to everyone. The 'Stros are taken, but the Royals are yours.

http://iamjoecollector.blogspot.com/2008/11/first-person-gets-em.html

for the list.

The reason i am doing this is because I have far too many cards that many of the readers will appreciate far more than I.

As for why I am doing this? I have been down this road before, I had 200,000-300,000 cards at one time and did nothing but drag them around on every move and finally got sick of it. I kept all my stars and a few random cards, but as you can tell from the box breaks that I do, I end up with a bunch of cards that I know people will enjoy.

Update on First Person Gets em Giveaway.

As promised I began sorting my cards today for the give away:

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

As you can see, I buried in cards. So, in order to get these cards out in a timely fashion, I may do the following. Those of you that signed up for Baseball will receive a card storage box of baseball, signed up for football will receive football and then if you choose, you can trade amongst yourself.

Frankly, I didn't realize how many cards I had and it took me two and a half hours just to get them sorted by sport. I will sort many of them by team, such as my finest, threads, gear, etc, but the topps baseball and football will be sent out randomly.

Thick pack of Leaf Limited

Interesting note from my box of leaf limited. The second to last pack was especially thick. I thought it might possibly have a fifth hit. I opened the pack and saw a block of white thinking that I might possibly have a letter. No, it was two blanks packed together. Plus there were 7 cards in the pack.

I have had this happen with UD Heroes baseball as well. It was kind of funny because I was thinking that some pack searcher at some shop had sought out these packs to come up with blanks and a bunch base.

2007-08 Topps Finest Basketball Box Break Review Two

I won two ebay auctions for 07-08 Finest Basketball, when the package arrived there was but a lonely box. I contacted the seller and he is sending out the second box. I paid $123 shipped for both. $61.50 a box.

1 Master box/3 miniboxes/18 packs/5 cards/1 auto and 1 redemption per mini box.

This is why I was confused about the redemptions in the baseball boxes. In Basketball you get one redemption and one auto per mini box. You get one refractor per pack and there are no "Finest Moments" inserts. Finest moments are kind of an annoyance in Finest Football.

The Base: The base are fine, but not noteworthy. The set is made up of retired players, veterans, and rookies. The rookies are two per pack and sometimes a third if that is your refractor:

Redemptions: As above the redemptions are 1 per mini box and are available in the rainbow of refractors:
Photobucket
12 - Jason Thompson - Green Refractor
15 - Robin Lopez
24 - Serge Ibaka - Blue Refractor

Not so impressive, but you never know. That brings me up to a two box total of:
9 Blue, 12 green. 15, 17, and 2x24 Black and Blue.

Autos: I have been a bit disappointed with the autos. I recognize the names, but only because I have other cards of them. No break out stars thus far.
Photobucket

Refractors: Black and GreenThe Acie Law IV is /99
Photobucket
Blue:
Photobucket
Xfractor: /15
Photobucket

Overall, this box is not very impressive. In a lot of ways Basketball is a bigger black hole of players than Baseball, in that Basketball has 20-30 "starz" whereas Baseball has 3-4 per team that people recognize. In addition, there are very few impact rookies. I am going to hold my opinion of Finest Basketball until I open my third box, but at this point unless you can pick these up for $30-40, I would say pass.

You will have more fun opening boxes of 06-07 Finest Baskeball. You should be able to get these for around $30. Just remember that the redemptions are expired. In the alternative you can buy singles for quite a bit less and fill out your collection that way. Whatever you do, don't buy miniboxes unless the person has all three up for auction. Chances are they have pulled a good card out of the other miniboxes and are selling what's left over. One of these boxes is still better than 3 of chrome.

2008 Leaf Limited Football Box Break Review

I take back all the bad things I have said about Donruss Products. Ok, not all. First the Free Agent rookies have gotta go. Unless you make their autos 1 per pack and they are treated as a base card, I don't want them. They funk up my box. Second, still a bit of dinged corned badness. Not something I should see in a high end product.

16 packs/5 cards/$10 pack (ouch) Actually paid: $81.06 shipped. $5.00 a pack.

The Base: Again typical Donruss product. 100 base veterans/100 Legends/Retired/100 Rookies. Anybody that says they are buying any of these for the base is a liar. Then again I have never heard anyone say that.
Photobucket

Inserts: Plenty of inserts, plenty of parallels, All of them numbered to various:
Photobucket
Photobucket

Rookies: Damn useless rookies /999, /49. Does it matter which is which? I didn't think so:
Photobucket

THE MAIN EVENT: Ok, hits, that's all I want, that's all most people want. I don't mind building sets, but I can do it for a lot less than $80 a box.

The First Hit:
Photobucket
Prime Jumbo /10. Hardy is a decent prospect. Hasn't done that much this year, but he has been in the games and there is a lot of receiving talent in Buffalo. Look for him to do a bit more next year.

The Second Hit: Redemption. My first Donruss redemption.
Photobucket
316 is Harry Douglas of the Falcons. Again, he shows promise. He has been an active player and so we will see what happens. No idea what these are numbered out of. Check that, just redeemed it and it is /99.
Description from Donruss:
Material Phenoms RC (34)
Featuring an autograph and a prime swatch of an event-worn jersey. Serial #'d to 99 or less.

The Third Hit: You are going to have to wait till the end.

The Fourth Hit: Dual Game Used /100
Photobucket
I don't mind this card because it isn't one of my big hits. This card would be so so if it was my one of two hits in a box, but they can't all be great.

Back to the Third Hit: Some of you might not care about this card, but I do. Even a regular auto would have been cool. I get that whether you get one of the /999, /499 /49, if they have all three, it is essentially the same card with a different number on it:
Photobucket
It bugs me that it is a sticker auto. But I can't argue with the number:
Photobucket
1/1

Needless to say this box was a smash. Basically I got 2-3 boxes of Gear or Threads in this box as far as quality of hits. Even if Hardy or Douglas aren't great in your opinion, they are still good quality hits. At this point, I would have to recommend Leaf Limited over all of the other products. I think your chances of a crappy box are much less. This might be a product that I buy 4-5 boxes. I know that not all of them will yield a 1/1 auto, but if the other hits are an indication of what a regular box has, I am ok with that.

2008 Finest Football Box Break the Third

My third and final box of Finest football. I may get another one down the road but probably not any time soon.

The autos: Nobody of note, but I did get the /20 Green Jordy Nelson. Still trying to decide whether I want to send in the others and get them numbered.
Photobucket
Base: Well, they are base
Photobucket
Box loaders: /149 refractors
Photobucket
Refractors:
Regular:
Photobucket
Rookies: Something tells me I have seen these before. /699
Photobucket
Blue:
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Green /299 and a couple blue
Photobucket
Black/99
Photobucket
Wait, that one at the top isn't black. You are right. Eli XFractor /25
Again, save your money on chrome and buy finest unless you can get a case of chrome for $200 because 3 or 4 of these boxes will yield almost as much. See Gellman's Chrome break.

2007 Donruss Elite Football Box Break Review

I didn't start busting boxes until I started this blog. I thought that me just posting my ebay singles would bore the hell out of people. There are many brands and years that I have absolutely none of, and 1996-2007 Donruss products are included in that.

I looked on the invoice and I paid 47 shipped for this box. Two hits/5 cards/20 packs maybe 24, it doesn't matter.

The Base:
The base are almost the same as the 2007 Playoff Prestige except shinier. Compare:
2007 Elite
Photobucket
2007 Playoff:
Photobucket
Way to differentiate your products.

Inserts: Lots of inserts. These are nice cards, but there are way too many parallels and colors and everything else:

The Back to the Future set is really nice. One current star with one new "star". Sometimes that current star had one good year and that was it. The finish on all of these cards is really nice. I didn't notice any damaged cards, so that appears to be a new issue with Donruss products.

Rookies: The Rookies are /599
Photobucket

Hits:
Donald Driver /249
Photobucket
Yamon Figurs Rookie Auto Status 22/24
Photobucket
Nice card, but more sticker auto badness.
Yamon is listed as a WR, but he does more kick returning than anything else. He had 1138 KR last year and 424 this year. 171 PR yards last year and 128 this year. So not a bad rookie.

Its hard not to want to open boxes when you know you are going to get hits, but Donruss and leaf products are not for those on a budget. They seem to be better for people that have more money than sense. AKA ME. You are better off just buying people's hits on ebay. You will save yourself a ton of cash and you can get the cards you want.

Upcoming box breaks

I have a couple box breaks that should be posted in the next couple of days. 2007 donruss elite football, 2008 finest football, and two boxes 07-08 finest basketball. There are others but I have to wait and see when the boxes finally show up.

I have to say that the 85 set is one of my favorites. Yes it has black borders, but on the cardboard, non-super gloss cards, the borders held up better in the packs.
