Fake Autos

I'm not trying to usurp Gellman's pointing out of fake autos, but this card doesn't look right to me. Are people taking fakes to message boards now? The Mcfadden sig looks off and the Felix looks like a stamp the way the ink is coming off.

More UD Quality

Although its possible the guy just pulled the logo out but the card is so valuable that it doesn't make any sense to.

2007 Upper Deck Football Ultimate Base Card Want List

13, 15, 27, 42, 54, 66, 87, 91

I really need the P Manning. I might actually pull this off. Not bad for a set /400

Masterpieces Serial Numbered Framed Parallels Wantlist

2007 and 2008 Baseball as well as 2008 Football.

I am collecting all of the 2007-08 Upper Deck masterpieces Serial numbered framed parallels. Willing to paypal for them. Let me know what you have. The larger the lot the better.

I am also collecting the 2008 Baseball Red Parallels:
2, 7, 9, 10, 20, 22, 23, 33, 39, 41, 42, 44, 45, 46, 48, 54, 59, 60, 61, 63, 64, 65, 69, 70, 71, 75, 76, 79, 80, 82, 92, 97, 99, 101, 102, 106, 108, 115, 116, 118

Panini Basketball Preview

I have to say I really like the photo shoot autos. On card?

Here is what I like about them. The signing area. The autos really pop. The cards also have that "rookie feel". First day of class student body card photo type of thing. I like it.
The dual card is ok. It would be nice if the player pics were bigger.
This one gets a Meh:
It kind of looks like set filler.
If Panini wants to send me some boxes of these, I'd bust them and review and give most of the cards away.

Here is what I want to see out of Panini. A high end Basketball product. One Rookie patch auto, 2 base cards /500 (50 card set no more than 4 parallels), 1 auto, 1 patch. $150. To be honest, I don't need Jordan or any of the expensive player autos in the set that do nothing but drive the price of the product into the stratosphere I want current guys and some retired Spud, Wilkins, Rambis, Worthy, that level of guy. Spare me the letters unless they are game used. I don't need booklets. I don't need Lebron/Kobe/Garnett triple autos. Don't waste my time with single color jerseys.

Sunday Card Porn XXII

I get lots of hits from Islamic countries for the search term "porn XII" oh and "finest list" not really sure what finest list means in those countries.

Here ye go.
My latest desean Jackson autos out of Mayo. Topps shipped both of these, in different packages, in 130pt toploaders that were horribly mangled when they arrived. The Cards were fine.
Grant sent me these:
Thanks Grant.

One more thing. You know what I hate? People that sell on Ebay that are smokers and don't disclose it. I got some cards last week that smell like aunt agnes' smoking jacket. Horrible! Basically the cards are worthless. Oh yeah, shipped all twelve in two snap cases. Thanks for nothing pal.

Group Breaks

Don't forget the group breaks. Motherscratcher and the Beardster seem to like them and you should too. If you pay for both your september break and the 2007 Exquisite Baseball Break at the same time, you can have the Exquisite slot for $54. That means I owe Mother $3 cash money.

If you want to get in on the 2008 Sp/Exquisite break and pay at the same time as the september break, you get four bucks off the break. You buy now!

Cards with no pictures on them in three words

Topps Triple Threads.

I have to agree with Gelman on these. They look stupid. I wouldn't mind owning one of those foldouts from one of my favorite players but they are pretty bad.

How about this. Regular player pic and card on the front, Big ass patch or letter on the back.

What's wrong with the hobby?

Blog fodder whatever. Seems all of us bloggers have spent way too much time on the subject and beaten the proverbial horse to death. So what do I have to add to the subject? Simple. Some have said that the problem with the hobby is High end, some say it the race to the top with game used and autos, I personally think that there are too many products. I have yammered on about when the decline came. I think the decline hit critical mass in 92. Topps went to white stock, Fleer and Ultra, Donruss, Upper Deck, pinnacle. Things just degraded from there.

Again, what do I have to add to the issue? Again simple. The answer is ALL OF THE ABOVE. It is whatever the reason that people drop out from collecting. For some it is that there are too many products. Personally that is why I stopped collecting for quite a few years. I became overwhelmed and didn't really see the point. I was a set and star collector. Buy some wax, build a set, get some star doubles while I was at it. What was the use of collecting if I had no hope of getting all of the sets from the particular year. Pack prices were increasing, set count was increasing, etc. Sure with fewer sets you are going to have some miss years, but we have that already. Anyone want a box of 2003 Topps football for retail price? I thought not. I have said a few hundred times that if Topps had base, chrome and Finest with Finest having Sterling level hits, and a reasonable price I would buy it by the pallet.

The too many products theory is similar to the High end is ruining the hobby argument. What is the use of collecting if I can never get the good cards that are in demand. Nothing like being stuck with the base rookie card when there is the rainbow of refractor autos xfractors, blah blah blah. If you are an AP collector, the 07 Exquisite Patch auto is the card. If I pull on out of my case (I wont) Gellman and Hitter might come unglued. I might be pursuaded to trade it as well. Anyway, If I was an AP fan and a player collector, the out of reach cards would drive me nuts. So a lot of people get discouraged at the prospect of having a perpetually second rate collection. I feel their pain. Wouldn't be an issue for me if I was a player collector. The great thing about the 80's was that I could go down to the store and buy a pack and pull the hot rookie just like anyone else. I do remember going into shops and having all the hot cards. In some respects my collection was as good as any run of the mill dealer.

The price theory is connected to the high end theory but is entirely different. Take a retail pack $3-$5 for 4-8 shitty base base cards that all look the same. It costs $300 bucks in wax to build an A and G set at least. Back in the day it was $30-$50 or $30 and $10 in singles and commons. Donruss products do have some nice hits but they are not set builder cards. The base cards are worth nothing but you are paying .75 to $1 per card. When you spent $.40 on a pack of 87 topps you got 17 cards. Chances are you pulled a star that got you your .40 back or you could sell or trade your commons for .05 a card and get it back that way. Why people buy retail these days I have no idea.

Everyone has a different theory and they are all, to a point, correct, if only for that person.

Exquisite as junk?

Hear me out on this one. First off, Exquisite Patch out rookies are the top of the line end all be all of a particular player's rookie card in Basketball, Football, and Hockey (The Cup), but what about the other cards?

I have lamented about the seemingly endless stream of /23 Lebron and Jordan cards. These cards will most certainly always be valuable. I will be very interested to see what happens when people realize they have 300 or so of these cards and their value is around 50-100k and everyone decides to sell. There are people that bust case after case after case after case of exquisite. Sure they get the big hit every once in a while. The Triple Logoman etc, but card for card these people more likely than not lose money as they try to flip everything. Then there are the private collectors that have gobs of money to spend that everything goes into their pc. But as usual I digress.

Now the rest of the story. Shaq, Paul, Garnett, Any retired player other than Jordan, and of the stars of the games have hundreds of really nice patches out there that are produced year in and year out. Nameplates, logos, 4 color 10 break, etc. By the way, listening to some 50 year old guy on youtube busting exquisite and talking about how "sick" every patch is...well its just a bit sad. That's the point you fucking tool, they are all "sick" retarded nasty mojo patches. ITS the EXQUISITE COLLECTION YOU FUCKTARD AND YOU DROPPED $100 ON THAT DAMN CARD! Funny how some of the cards are worth more than the game used jersey actually costs.

You name it, Exquisite has it. The question is at what point do all of those patches and autos become worthless? By worthless, I mean shaq, garnett, etc patches going for $2-$10. That's a 95% loss on the card for the seller. I am in no way saying that these cards are to this point. The 08-09 product is still super hot, but give it a couple years. Although with UD losing their license, you never know.

Football is a different story. With the exception of rookies, Exquisite Football patches are much less expensive. Plenty of these for for $5-$20 range and as the years go by the current stars are going to have more and more jerseys and patches available. Think of all the preseason games, regular season, playoff jerseys. I wonder if the players change or are going to start changing their jerseys at half time just to create more game used jerseys and thus more revenue. If I was a team finance guy, I would have all the stars change their jerseys at half. AP, both mannings, etc would have 32 regular season game worn jerseys per year.

I think the market for autos is worse. Those can be signed in unlimited numbers. Does anyone think that Lebron autos are actually rare? No, but they are in very high demand. Seems like every pack of UD High end Basketball has a Bill Walton auto in it. Anyway, I will be very interested to see how all of this turns out in the next few years. Does UD have one more sticker auto/jersey dump product up their sleeve before they have to stop making basketball products?

Given the cost per card at retail, I still think Exquisite does poorly on the secondary market. If you pull the big hit that is 1 in 3 cases than fine, but even then you have to get $800-$1200 out of it to break even.

So you are asking yourself why is Joe Collector banging on Exquisite when he just threw down $880 on a case of 07 football and has two group breaks of Exquisite going? Because we are collectors. The fact is that Shaq patch that went for $45+ is a cool ass card. For the price of a card on the bay, we each get a shot at and are guaranteed quite a few cards and Exquisite Baseball is cheap.

2007 Exquisite Football Box - Redux

Yeah, I'm not going to sugar coat my box of Exquisite, it sucked bad. I got one good card, the Jarrett "quad" jersey. Here is a question I asked myself about the box: Other than not getting a big hit, what would I have gotten for $200 of wax?

I did get a dual on card auto of two starting QB's, a nameplate auto patch /99, a single color Semi star patch, a nobody* rookie on card auto and a quad patch of a star rookie. How bad is that really compared to what we normally pull out of boxes. Say you dropped $100 on a box. Is the Jarrett enough to make you "happy" What about the nameplate auto?

My point is that I didn't come close to recouping my money on this box, not that I sell anyway, but from a collecting standpoint was it that bad? Was I one decent card away? Say and LT auto or something to that effect?

*That is my bad, this guy has played in all 32 games in the last two years. He also had 7 picks last year. My appologies Mr. Griffin.

Group Break Cards

Are Mailed. You should get them no later than Monday.

Blowout Shenanigans

Blowout Cards is up to some Shenanigans. Topps Magic is suspect. Gellman calls it a sticker dump and I am inclined to agree. There is no other way to justify 3rd year practice roster autos in the set. Plus the secondary market is horrible on these cards with only a few cards showing decent returns.

Blowout has posted the following Tweets:
BLOWOUTCARDSKeep an eye on 2009 Topps Chrome Baseball and 2009 Topps Magic FB. Both have some huge upside remaining.
about 12 hours ago from web

Keep an eye on Topps Magic FB and 2007 UD SP legendary Cuts BB. Have a suspicion both will run shortly

Should say topps magic football
10:40 AM Jul 30th from mobile web
Magog football starting to fly.. Just sold 6 cases in the last 30 minutes... Something's up with this product all of a sudden
10:39 AM Jul 30th from mobile web

Blowout, you are full of shit on this one. But wait there is more. Blowout has jacked up their ebay price to $106 a box. Atlanta, and Big T have followed suit. Routinely when Blowout, DA, and BigT are the only ones with boxes available on the Bay, the prices will rise dramatically. Yet boxes of Magic have been selling for $55-74 on a regular basis.

I wouldn't mind picking up a case or two of magic just to collect some of the autos and maybe the set as well, but these are sticker autos and the base set is alright I suppose. Maybe this is the same crap they are pulling with Exquisite, Prime cuts and National Treasures these days. Prices of wax increased 50%, be better off to pick up singles. The tough thing about that is that I am a general collector, so I have a hard time just picking up a single or two.

September football group break

September Football Break:
5 Boxes 2008 SP Authentic - 15 hits
1 Box 2008 Exquisite Football - Normal hit numbers
16 slots, 2 teams per slot, you get to pick 1 of your teams. Cowboys, Steelers, Falcons and Ravens are to be randomed. You will be assigned 1 random team of the teams that are not selected. Your choice team will be selected via a draft. I will random the list of participants and you will draft in that order.
$57 a slot
Pay at will

I had to exempt those four teams. Too many crazy hits to let people just pick them. These products are lousy with hits from those teams. The team listed beside your name is your top choice. If you send along your top one or two teams it will be easier to do the draft. If everyone picks different teams we may not need a draft.

1. IamJoeCollector (Host) - First Choice Rams
2. Captain Canuck - FC Colts
3. Box Opener - FC Bears
4. HEB - FC Raiders
5. HEB - FC Lions
6. Red Bird - FC Titans/Oilars
7. Darkship - FC Vikings
8. RichR- FC Eagles
9. Red Bird - FC Broncos

2008 Upper Deck Heroes Football Box 16 of 17

Hopefully Upper Deck can continue this sort of stuff now that they won't be wasting time on Baseball:
The Jerseys
The Autos

Group Break suggestions.

What do you guys want to do a group break of? I will be more than happy to host them, and not participate. I actually quite enjoy them with the exception of packing up hundreds of base cards. Football,Basketball, Baseball. Whatever.

Group Break Cards

Cards will go out no later than Wednesday. They are sorted. Couple of notes. Expect the Leaf Limited cards to have some rough corners. Donruss/Leaf had some big issues with this in 2008. In addition, expect some foil board seperation. Some of the Bowman's best have some surface imperfections, some odd edges and. Any of you that have opened A and G are aware of the issues that come along with that

All cards have been put into extra thick sleeves in groups of 5-7 cards, will then be put into team bags and will have blanks on the outside of that. Shipped in a box or bubble mailer. That's as good as it gets with shipping this many cards.
