2009 Allen and Ginter Group Break?

Any Interest? Product releases on June 29, 2009. I haven't decided how it would be structured. Random Teams? Specific Teams for sale. (Dangerous because not every team is wanted). By the hit? There ae 36 hits in the case. Everyone would get an equal share of the minis and base cards.

Here is the Breakdown:
Approximate Release Date: 06/29/2009

A combination of any of the (3) following cards per Hobby Box:
* Autographed,
* Relic,
* Cut Signature,
* Rip,
* or Printing Plate
- One Hobby Exclusive N43 or Cabinet Card per box!
- One Hobby Exclusive Rip Card per case!

12 boxes per case, 24 packs per box. 8 cards per pack

Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball returns in 2009 with all new insert cards including Biggest Hoaxes, Hoodwinks, & Bamboozles, Cut Signature cards highlighting luminaries from centuries past, and popular DNA cards featuring Napoleon and Geronimo!

The Ginter Code also returns, more byzantine and enigmatic than before, challenging collectors to decipher a hidden code for a chance to win a special Ginter Code Winner Set of autographs from every framed autograph subject in 2009 Topps Allen & Ginter.

And as in years past, Allen & Ginter's distinguished card design, modeled after the vintage Allen & Ginter cards from the late 1800's, will continue to delight collectors.

The Finest Case is busted

Videos will be up in an hour or two. THERE IS NO AUDIO. I videod the uncasing in one, mini boxes 1-8 in another, and 9-16 in the other. Its about an hour of video as it takes a long time to open all of these packs.

I will have the list of cards up tonight or tomorrow evening. Remember I will have to sort 480+ cards. There are 8 left over cards and I will random those off after I get them sorted.

The Uncasing.

Be patient with the video, vimeo has this problem with videos being nothing but black for a few hours.

D-bag Ebay Sellers

I often big on Topps Patch cards with a theme, All-star, Finals, Superbowl, etc.

Topps puts out All-Star Jersey cards in their Update and highlights set. I don't know what the insertion rate is, but they seem to be plentiful. There are some color variations in the regular version, but again are not difficult to come buy.

Topps also produces the patch version. Usually Numbered to /10 or /25. The other day I came upon a CC Sabathia /10. These are very difficult pulls.

I won the thing for 3.25 plus 2.50 shipping. Not too shabby. I paid yesterday or the day before and then received a refund with the following note:

Name: Richie Schnyderite
Email: giants27rb@yahoo.com
Note from Seller: i am sorry my friend ripped the card on accident so it is in no condition to send or collect. Please dont be mad I am really sorry. He's an asshole.

What a dick. What does he mean "ripped the card"? I am not sure what he means is "I didn't get nearly as much as I wanted for this card and I am hoping this guy buys my lame ass story"

I responded:
Can you send me a pic of the damaged card? I may want it anyway.

Jeff

Needless to say I haven't received a response. I think peopel misunderstand Ebay. You put up an auction and the item sells for the ending price period. No game playing like shill bidding, canceling bids and ending the item just before it ends because you didnt get the price you want, or the shenanigans above.

So should I leave him negative feedback or no?

2009 Finest List Randomization

Ok I used Random.org as you will see in the video. I think I hit the randomize button 3 times before I started pasting the list into the Wordpad document. I saved that document and will email it to anyone that requests it. Unless I can figure out how to embed it into this post.

As you can see from the video I just kept copying and pasting into the document until I got to 16. I did one too many so I had to erase one. Also, because I am not taking part in the break, it doesn't matter to me who goes where. It may be hard to see the video, but this is my first go at this and the list is below. Again, there is no audio. Nobody wants to hear me talk.

Questions??

2009 Finest Group Break List - Free Legal Forms

What has Upper Deck said in response?

Update: Chris Carlin just sent me an email that he is forwarding my concern to the correct people. That's impressive as Mr. Carlin was out of the office until this morning. I imagine he had 1000's of emails to look through when he got in this morning.

Nothing as of yet. To be fair, I only contacted them yesterday morning. This morning, someone from their Las Vegas office visited my site through Wax Heaven. I will keep you Updated.

See my awesome Break here and my question as to what should Upper Deck do here.

Some thoughts on the Upper Deck Masterpieces Case Problem

I have gotten more hits today than I have since I commented that I thought 2009 Heritage is a waste of money. No reply from Upper Deck as of yet.

The issue is, do I really deserve some sort of replacement from Upper Deck. If so, what?

The snub on the Auto's is very hard to swallow. I have concluded that the lack of variety in the parallels is close to being equally as terrible. One of the reasons I bought the case was to work on my parallel sets. Plus I was hoping to come up with some /25 types and /10. A few posters on some of the message boards have stated that I wouldn't be upset if they were all Matt Ryans. It wouldn't be as bad, but I would still be bitter. I would probably sell them. Obviously there was a serious collation problem here. As previously mentioned. The serial numbers are all very close to each other. Not knowing how these are packed out leaves me without an idea of how this happens.

So anyway, my question to all of you is, what if anything should Upper Deck do?

2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces Case Break - If you are from Upper Deck Please Read. The Craziest Case Break You Might Ever See.

And not in a good way. Upper Deck, you are killing me!

Message Board Links:

The Bench, Blowout, Beckett

ALL YOUR EARLY DOUCETT III ARE BELONG TO US!

We know how much I love me some Masterpieces. Upper Deck hit a homerun with Baseball, Football, and Hockey, too bad they never put out a Basketball. I love this product. I have almost completed the regular framed parallels from Football, and both years of Baseball. I love it, love it love it.

So when I had a chance to get a case of football at $47 a box shipped, I jumped on it. Plus I got $100 bucks from my CC company because it put me over on points. The case arrived Today, but by the time you read this, it will be Yesterday. I carefully open each box, keeping them in order so I can take pics and post them here a box at a time. I am not going to waste my time doing that with this case. It will be CLEAR why.

I started off in the first box merrily Joe Collectoring away. The Red parallel /199 happened to be in the first pack, and the second. I tood a look and noticed they were both Early D III's. Things could be worse. Then I got a Blue one /150. Then a funny thing happened. NO FRICKIN AUTO!

Then I opened the second box, a silver, silver and blue. AND AGAIN, NO FRICKIN AUTO!

I could go on and on and on. I finally did get ONE AUTO IN THE ENTIRE FUCKING CASE!
Photobucket

I don't want to make it seem like the only numbered parallels I got were Early D's. I got one other one:
Photobucket
Seven of the them /150

Well I haven't shown you any pics of all the Early D's, so maybe I am making this up. Not so fast Mr. Skeptical: Read it and weep!
Green /75
Photobucket
Silver/80
Photobucket
Blue/150 One of them is black, but there are 15 count'em 15 Blue
Photobucket
and the Coup De Gras. The Red. Steady yourself. Easy now, easy:
Photobucket

So what the hell do I do? One auto in the case. Oh yeah, no patches, I did get the jerseys. No other numbered parallels besides those pictured above.

Finest Group Case Break happens on April 27

I got the tracking number today and the case will be delivered on April 27, I will break it that night and get the cards mailed out within 2 days after that.

2007 Upper Deck Ultimate Football Pack - Video Break

With my case of Masterpieces, I got a free pack of 2007 Ultimate Football. In a test run to see how my new camera does videos, I decided to give video breaks another shot. THERE IS NO AUDIO. No one wants to listen to me talk.

You might recall my idiocy of a previous ultimate break with a Rice/Higgins Octo jersey and I didn't know you had to take the stupid "certificate of authenticity" out of the sleeve to reveal the second guy. Note to Upper Deck, no certificate necessary for the Hill/Smith Octo. Not exactly a highly counterfeited couple of guys.

I needed the Alex Smith for my set

The Yamon Figures isn't so bad, but why did UD make 1000's of Beck autos. Who the hell is this guy?

Anyway, it is plain to see why this product flopped. It didn't just flop a little, it bombed. There are some nice hits to be had,but for the $300 MSRP, there should be a Quinn, AP, Lynch or someone in every pack.

As I said, this pack was free. Thank the card gods.

Topps Finest group break update

I am waiting for the tracking number from the seller. I will post the randomized list of spots from 1-480 tonight. I am going to use random.org and randomize the list 16 times. For the sake of fairness, I am not taking part in this break. I would have hated to end up with any of the hits if someone didn't get one.

Monday, April 20, 2009

In all fairness to Upper Deck

Its easy for me to sit here and bash Upper Deck Baseball products, mainly because there are so many bad ones. I am here to help too. Since Upper Deck Bothered to read my blog today, its the least I can do.

I am going to assume that Upper Deck doesn't do focus groups or meaningfull product research. I know they bring in the Diamond Club people, not sure what for. Maybe they do surveys, but whatever.

Anyway, in addition to having Stale Gum and Wax Heaven do reviews once the product is released, why don't you send out pre production samples to a group of bloggers Obviously with Non-Disclosure Agreements. I mean someone gave the Green Light to UD Black Baseball, somebody said yes to X and Spectrum and Timelines and all that stuff.

Shoot, if I were putting out a Football product, Gellman would be the first cranky SOB I would talk to. The man doesn't pull punches, and if he likes it, collectors will too. Sure, other knuckleheads will tell you a product is great with tons of indistinguishable parallels, faux 1 of 1's, event used jockstrap cards, sticker autos of Paul Williams, but Gellman will tell you the truth and know what he is talking about.

All it takes to do this is a NDA, a few sample cards, the sell sheet mark up and a product description along with other releases for over lap considerations.

BTW, your USA cards should only be inserts. The box set is over priced and yet another product on your calendar.

Most of us bloggers have been through a coupld decades of collecting, actually put our money where our mouth is when it comes to products, and if you are Gellman or Mario, you have thousands of readers per month.

Filled - 2009 Baseball Finest Case Break CASE ORDERED

*******CASE HAS BEEN ORDERED**********

Releases on 4/22 - I have contacted the seller for shipping information as this product has gone live. I will let you know as soon as I get a reply.
Thanks to Mario at Wax Heaven for the plug

$25 a slot.
$48 for 2
30 slots

Here is how it would work. As the cards come out of the pack, front to back they are counted off until I reach 30. If you are in slot 1 you get the first card if you are in slot 2 you get the second and so on. Once I go through the list I start at the top and go through until all the cards are assigned. The list is re-randomized after the sixth pack. There are 8 boxes/12 packs/5 cards, thus there are 480 cards per case. That would be 16 cards per person.

There are 16 auto patches per case. Everyone is guaranteed cards. The packs will be all put into a big box and drawn randomly and opened in no particular order.

The product will be released on the 30th. Break will happen on the 6th 7th or 8th. I realize we are getting toward the end of the month. If you want to committ but pay on the 1st, just let me know. I will order when we get to 15 spots. The break will happen regardless of whether I am able to fill every spot. I will pick up the rest.

Upper Deck, I'm sorry but ...

you're fired, you are the weakest link, goodbye, you have been voted off the island, insert horrible horrible cliche and/or over used catch phrase here.

Your baseball products suck, well except Masterpieces and arguably heroes because of the auto/jersey checklist, but the base cards, oh the base cards and too many parallels.

If MLB decides to give out an exclusive deal, I hope it's to Topps. In saying that, I have to forgive the sucktatude that was 2008 Stadium Club and the horrific hits that lurk in Heritage, but overall Topps handed you your ass this year and you've got nothing. Its not like you did anything in the past few years either, its just that Topps had gimmicked its way onto a lot of shitlists. This year, you have essentially hit the repeat button on last year and you didn't have anything that compelling. I swear that people buy your baseball product out of obligation or sheer boredom.

Regardless, your list of failures is too long to recite, but your list of successes is so small and you won't stop putting out filler. SPX, documentary, spectrum, X, timelines and on and on and it keeps on going. I know my baseball collecting would be much simpler without you, just as it was in 89. Although your 89, 90, and 91 sets are some of my all time favorites, but you're 92 set that I swear was printed on pure gloss. Since then, collectors choice? Black Diamond?, blah blah blah.

Think about this, do you have anything to compete with heritage or Allen and Ginter? OPC is a nice try, except YOU RIPPED OFF TOPPS' DESIGN. Maybe not legally as I haven't had a chance to read the contracts or the complaint, but you know what you did. Ethically, that's bullshit and you know it.

I could keep talking, but I won't.

Wait, I do have one more thing. Ballpark collection? What kind of crap is that. How many square yards of single color jersey material did you have laying around anyway? I guess the secondary market on these cards really tells the story.

Hi, my name is Joe Collector

and I hate screw down holder. Listen up kids. The screw down is a horrible storage device, even the math says so. Screw Down + no room for penny sleeve + room to move around + banging corners on holder+ takes up 3 times as much room as a top loader = horrible storage device.

The magnetic holder on the other hand keep your corner nice and point, much like a madonna bra. They do take up room, but they are easy to open. I dont know how many cards I have gotten in screw down cases that are banging around, begging for a toploader. When I go to rescue it, I find a stripped out screw. I then have to pry the damn thing open, breaking the case, careful not to harm the cardboard gold.

Screw down holders do fight the snap case and plastic box as the worst storage option, but the screw down doesn't quite bang the corners like an unprotected card in a snap case. Thanks dillhole ebay seller!

Hi, my name is Joe Collector

and I think UFC sucks. Don't get me wrong, most of those guys could handily kick my flat white ass, but the fans are the hugest douches ever. Also, nothing like 1:45 of filler for 15 minutes worth of fighting. Although the fighting is sometimes good, sometimes crap.

I know all of the fans are 5'7", 240lb beefcakes, or large muscley douche but for the love of god stop wearing your retarded (yup I said it and I don't care, save your angry email.) tapout, affliction or what ever dumbass t-shirts that are affiliated with UFC douche fighting teams. Here is a tip:

Everyone is laughing at you, and no one thinks you are cool. I have been at strip clubs (I don't go with other dudes only women) and bars when a group of guys will come in with bandanas, tatts, UFC type shirts and trying to look all badass. As they walk past, the number of out and out laughter and chuckles I see are ridiculous.

You know who you are and I think I've made my point. Good Day.

Topps and the Case of the Copied Design

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the complaint in this case or any of the other filings for that matter?

I fell off the wagon

and bought a case of 2008 Masterpieces football. The case was 784 - $25 rebate I had with my DA Cardworld account. So $759. I got a free pack of 2007 Ultimate Football and the purchase will put me over my point total that I need to get a 100 check from my CC company. Not too bad.

Response to my Comment on Beckett

You may remember this.

To which I got the stock answer as to how pricing is done. Notice the lack of a real answer.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to write.

There are many factors taken into account when pricing cards and eBay is
one of them, as well as card shops, Beckett Marketplace, and many
others.

We strive to give you the most accurate and timely pricing available
anywhere and that not only includes new products but previously priced
products as well. So when we revisit the James Bond Archives set if
there are any adjustments to be made we will be on top of it.

Thanks,

Box breaks are going to have to wait

So I wrote my tax check this morning. It was around the 3k mark and yes I pay an ass load every month, I am not intentionally paying less. Looks like the box breaks are going to have to wait till the middle of May. I am looking at a few candidates but haven't quite decided.

The Finest Case break is still going forward. That case is paid for, just waiting for release.

What happened to the Wombat?

A week or so ago Wax Wombat had a huge list of boxes he was going to break. His page then disappeared. Anyone know what happened?

No I wasn't there, and neither was anyone else.

You see, I don't live near a professional sports team so its never a spur of the moment thing for me to decide I am going to a game. The ticket prices kind of make me cringe because there is nothing in my area that costs as much as a game.

In the 70's and 80's there were whole seating sections that were open, thousands of seats with the nearest person in the next area code. Now days the stadiums are full as can be day in a day out.

Is the economy really taking its toll in these areas now? Is there a lack of interest? Or regardless of the first two, are tickets just flat out too expensive?

Hi, my name is Joe Collector

and I hate 7 day auctions.

Now I know that your 40 card lot of 2001 topps base cards is a hot property and those extra 4 days that you get from a 3 day auction are going to bring you up from your .49 starting price all to .78, but for the love of god cut it down to 3 days.

First, I know you want your cards to end on a Saturday or a Sunday. Just list them on Wednesday or Thursday night. Actually, try this. List the cards on a Saturday evening or Sunday evening with an ending time of Tuesday or Wednesday an you will be fine. If you search like I do where I go newly listed items first, it really doesn't matter what time they are listed or when they end. But I realize that there are many people that only look at the ending soon auctions. For this reason, your ending price is going to be more dependent on the ending time rather than day. Most ebay buyers are looking 5-7 days a week but they can't look at 2 pm when your auction is ending.

Just have them end AFTER 6PM Pacific Time.

Topps Comes Through! My Murad Case has been made whole.

In my case of Murad, I came up two Autos short of what I was promised. So I packed up 48 Wrappers, my case receipt, the UPC codes, a dna sample and a thumbprint and shipped them all of with a letter explaining my problem.

Just nine days later I received a package from Topps. The package contained the following:
Mike Miller Auto. I already have this card
Photobucket

Mickael Pietrus Auto
Photobucket

Gilbert Arenas Jersey
Photobucket

Amar'e Stoudemire jersey
Photobucket

For those of you scoring at home, or those of you home by yourself, that is two extra jersey cards. Granted, Topps didn't send me anything great, but I appreciate them taking my complaint seriously. You know Topps and UD get taken advantage of, or at least people attempt to, all of the time, so I can see why Topps has the requirements that they do for this sort of thing. I just wish Topps was a bit more lenient on the damaged card replacements.

The pics are a bit different because I bought a new camera in anticipation of my trip to Vegas at the end of the month. It might take me a few to get the knack of photographing cards with it. I went from a 2.1 MP camera that I got for free with a laptop I bought in February 2004, so this is quite the step up for a point and shoot. I have a nice SLR but it does a crappy job of up close photos. Actually that's not fair, I don't have a short lens for it.

I love you for your talent and your mind

and you wonder why no one takes you seriously. You know who you are.

Hi, my name is Joe Collector

and I like Redemption Cards

Here is why.

First, Topps and UD have come through for me thus far. Even if it never gets fulfilled, the card wouldn't have been in the pack anyway. If Topps or UD doesn't come through, they will send out a replacement. The down side is that sometimes its way slow and the replacement might suck, but things can be done about that.

Second, and most importantly, nothing pisses me off more than a damaged hit. Whether it is chipping, worn edges, a dinged corner, scratches, what have you. IT PISSES ME OFF. With Redemption cards, they always seem to be mint. The cards are shipped in toploaders or other types of cases that keep the cards nice and safe.

Two Wicked low numbered hits. Not too shabby. If there is a Bosh collector out there, drop me a line. As you can see I did well with /25 autos as I got 3 so far in this case That is 2 cases worth of allotment. Anyway, I think the reason is that the odds on the packs were done with planned pack out. Murad was then packed out with a much lower production run.

Hi, my name is Joe Collector

and I hate Prospect sets.

Ever since the days of Impel, pro cards, etc, I have hated these sets. Don't confuse my hatred of Prospect sets with those of minor league team sets that are given away at games. These are often the closest things that fans have to hometown heroes. I am talking about the sets that are currently produced by Razor and Tristar and to a lessor extent the Bowman Prospect sets.

Here is why: Who the Hell are these guys. Nothing like throwing down serious cash on a Box of Razor or Tristar and coming up with absolutely no one that you recognize. Out of a set of 100 or so, maybe 4-7 if you are lucky will go on to a long career. Sometimes more I suppose. At least with '52 Rookies and Bowman, you get some guys that have been to the bigs, but with the prospect sets you get crap.

Now you might recognize some names of these guys because the names are thrown around everywhere these days. For some perspective, think of the 80's. I could do this for the 70's too.

Big name players: 1980: Rickey
1981: Tim Raines, Fernando, Kirk Gibson, Harold Baines
1982: Ripken
1983: Sandberg, Boggs, and Gwynn
1984: Mattingly, Strawberry, Puckett, Clemens, maybe Gooden
1985: Ironically out of the USA set McGwire
1986: Canseco, Bonds, Bo
1987: Maddux
1988: Glavine, Grace, Biggio, Smoltz
1989: Randy Johnson, Griffey, Sheffield
1990: Big Hurt, Sosa

There are some other good rookies in those years, but not even the ones above have particularly valuable cards. Sure, they are known, but prospectors are out for big dollar cards. If there are 100 cards in a set and even 10 go on to a big career, your success rate is 10%. Go buy a lottery ticket. Your payoff on 75 powerball tickets will probably be bigger.

Another way to think of it is, say you bought a ton 2001 Bowman chrome boxes at 100 a box. What were your chances of pulling a Pujeoloso or a Reyes auto? Same with the prospect sets now. What are your chances of pulling the auto card of the player that makes it?

UPDATE: I want to buy it now, but do you want to sell it now?

Let me start off by saying: What a Douche!

See my previous post about people that post Items with BIN's, they get a good faith reasonable offer and then won't accept it. They then let the items sit in their inventory or their closet and then end up selling the item for the same or less than what the offer was before. Here is the Item. Here is the offer history:

A comment on Beckett Blog for Pricing - Non-Sports Cards

Just trying to get some info:

See the post here.

And My Comment:
Bryan

Were you able to confirm any of those Olga Kurylenko autos being sold for anywhere near $250. If so, from what source?

A search on Ebay shows a high sale at $200 with BIN’s at $165 and $185. I realize this is just a guide, but I would like to know where the top end of that range comes from.

The Newton is the same way, looks like the range is $33-$75. Again, any confirmed sales in the $100 range?

I know you draw guide values from more than just ebay, but are there shops that are able to get these prices?

2008/09 Upper Deck Exquisite Basketball

Upper Deck has joined topps in extra horrible fold out designs:
Photobucket

Here is the excitement from the selling thingy:

New Feature
Introducing the Career Portfolio Card. Each Card is a 1 of 1 with a unique die-cut and an autograph. Only made for UD Exclusive Spokesmen Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, and Michael Jordan!

Don't get me wrong I would be psyched to get the Kobe. Let's face it, The Black Mamba is one of the top 10 Players of all time. The problem is, how do you display the damn thing. Maybe having this graded by beckett only for the purposes of the holder would be worth it.

Anyway, here is the break down:
Box Configuration
5 Cards per Pack, 1 Pack per Box, 3 Boxes per Case.

Box Breakdown
On average each box of 2008/09 Exquisite Basketball contains:

1 Autographed Rookie Patch
1 Autographed Card
1 Memorabilia or Autographed Card
1 Base Set Card
1 Additional Autographed, Memorabilia, Parallel, or Base Card
(Of these, One Autographed Rookie Card will be numbered to 225 or less and One Autographed Patch Card will be numbered to 100 or less)

All cards are hard-signed and boxes are hand-collated to assure maximized value!

Player Exclusive Signed Boxes Return! Signed Boxes include only limited numbered cards of that specific player. Only 15 players featuring Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, and more!

Maybe when these cases, as well as all Exquisit cases hit $1000, that's the time to buy. You aren't going to get hits like this out of a case of midrange. Most of these cards are case hits for other products.

Maybe my next buying spree will be Exquisite. Nothing this month because of the huge ass tax bill.

Don't take this the wrong way but..

See this post.

This guy owns a comic, book, games, d and d, part time card store. I have enjoyed reading his blog after one of my readers turned me on to it. I can't remember which one, but I appreciate it because I find most of Duncan's posts to be insightful and/or funny. He missed the boat on this one.

Note the following:

He could only come up with two in Portland.

So that kind of confirmed what I've been feeling: cards in Oregon are all but dead.

So....like I always thought would happen, I was there at the beginning; when you could only find a few dusty packs at Safeway; and I'm here at the end, when you can only find a bunch of regurgitated, recycled crap at Shopko.

I stuck with cards out of sheer cussedness, because I wanted to see this day.

So I could, in fact, say "I told you so."

As you can see from the comments, I was able to name 5 without even searching on the internet. How can a guy loosely in the business that operates in a state the size Oregon have no idea how many competitors he has? Then he declares cards dead?

Duncan has been in business an awful long time, but I think his views are a bit off because he is a book guy. In other words, he doesn't know jack about cards. In fact he was unaware that Donruss was bought by Panini. Really? He claims to speak authoritatively about cards?

It seems from reading his posts that cards were a side product for him. When you couldn't help but make money in cards 85-98, he did. When it came time for the shop owners to have some knowledge about cards to make money, his business faultered. After doing the projections for my shop, and reviewing my ordering options, it became apparent to me that anyone that orders from places like "The Magazine Exchange" is giving away cash.

Blowout, DA, Atlanta, Big T and PGH have much better prices than the traditional shop suppliers. I could be wrong, but I have seen some price lists that still show 2008 Masterpieces Baseball at $55 a box, when you can get them for $40 a box at Big T or Blowout and less by the case. Thus any shop that buys their stock from anywhere but the internet sellers has no idea what they are doing and knows nothing of the industry. Something tells me these are the guys that love Beckett and list their cards on Ebay as 1/1's with a BIN of $100 because the card is 13/1000 and that's the player's jersey number.

I have been in stores with owners like him before. Any question that requires more than cursory knowledge of cards is a lost cause. Talking shop is a waste. Rarely do I see card guys that try their hand at comics because it is damn near impossible to be successful at. Yet Comic guys do cards all the time.

I was a big comic collector for a few years and the grading is so different. Well Duh right. No. I bought my dad a couple Beatles comics that I had graded by CGC. Before I sent them off I tried my hand using the Overstreet grading guide and came up with a 6.5 on one. It came back as a 4.5. This was after I had been collecting for 8 years. I don't have cards graded but I do have quite a few that are. To test myself, I was within a half a grade on almost every one. Sometimes over sometime under. I would never venture to have a comic shop. My knowledge of pre 80 comics is almost zilch.

When you consider all of the publishers, variants, cross overs, reboots, titles and so forth, it takes a while to get up to speed. Just reading a price guide or two doesn't cover it.

My point is, Duncan, a book, games, comics guy that has no real knowledge of cards declared cards in Oregon dead. Based upon my observations, Cards in Oregon are not dead even if the shops and their business is. Maybe the wrong people are running the shops?

I've been Canucked

Just got back from the mailbox and lo and behold a big ol fat package was taking up its fair share of room. I then saw the unmistakeable Royal Canadien Post Office Post Mark up in the corner. It could be from no other person than The Capn'

What did I find. Junk Wax Galore. I use that term with a sense of nostalgia. You see, for most of us, these were our glory years of collecting. Driving everywhere to track these packs down because they were going to be worth thousands. All that money I wasted on those packs and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I did see the 89 Score Rack Pack with a Mark Grace insert. Hell Yeah!

I make no secret that I am a huge Lakers fan. I became a fan during the showtime days. In my defense, the only games on tv were Celtics or Lakers with some other teams thrown in once in a while.

So when I pulled a Michael Cooper Jersey Card I was Psyched:

And now a quick comment on case collation: I have no idea how cases are packed out. I have some ideas, but I am not going to venture a guess because I just don't know. Steve from Sports Card File could probably tell us. Anyway, I have busted a few cases and come up with some crazy results.

My 2008 Topps Allen and Ginter Case was done well. There were no hit doubles at all. Lots of Braves hits, but that's not a collation problem per se.

My 07-08 SPX Basketball case was a different story. I did get a LeBron, but I also got 3 Boobie Gibson autos. The Same damn card. I also got a Plathora of Joakim Noah Autos and such.

My Half Case of 06-07 Finest Basketball. Maybe the other half of the case had all the Reddicks and Morrisons. As I got Nothing. Not a big deal you say. Tell that to someone that would have opened that case when it came out. Although I did get that auto suit patch /50 Morrison.

2007 Artifacts Football: Yes I got the Adrian Peterson /25 parallel, but none of the regular AP rookies. Considering I got 4 of every other rookie, that is terrible collation.

06-07 Sp Authentic Basketball Case. Collation was good. No Rookie auto Doubles.

Anyway, how do you get double Hits? Does the guy or girl putting the packs in boxes and boxes in cases just screw it up?

I think its Sean Williams.
