Bidding war or Shill Bidding?

There are often allegation of shill bidding, but how can you really tell whether shill bidding has occured? Take a look at this auction result. Those are weird increases in bid price on a card that doesn't see a whole lot of action normally. Anyway, I noticed that this occurs on cards where the owner would most likely be upset that their case hit could possibly go for $3.

What say you?

That definatley is kinda suspicious. And as far as how easy it would be I don't know but I bet it wouldn't be that hard. Especially if you had a buddy to help you out, so if for some reason the shill bet wins it's no harm to you or your buddy. I have had auctions canceled on me and the excuss was that the seller broke some rules, Shill betting? Who knows.
It is interesting in the auction though you had a last minute, no previous bids, bidder win it. It's a ncie looking card though.

I won the auction so no suspicion there, but it seems that without the war/shill bidding I would have gotten it for $5 or so.

t***a seems to be a buddy that's trying to egg on the bidding. It isn't hard to do. This product seems especially liable to have shill bidding b/c that may be a somewhat difficult hit to come by, but hits from this set don't normally go for high amounts.

yeah, the small incrimental bidding is always suspicious. Either that or the guy has no clue about ebay. Doubtful with over 100 feedback though.

Actually I tend to do small incrimental bidding a lot of times because I don't want it to instantly increase my bid after someone has outbid me.

i had something similar happen to me when i sold a topps traded pujols rookie. it ended up going to for about double what the recently ended auctions had been going for. one guy just kept bidding in $1 increments. the eventual winner wasn't very happen about it and questioned if i was responsible. i had no part in it. my only explanation was that the guy also bid on 2 of my other auctions and was trying to win multiple to save on shipping. i told the seller sorry, but you shouldn't have bid what you weren't willing to pay.
