2010 Panini Plates and Patches - Sponsored by Panini

Panini Sent this over and I opened it.  I was very excited to open this product, Lets See.

Base Cards:  Not a fan of these and they come in various parallels.  These look more like inserts than base cards.  I have a feeling they will grow on me.  The card stock and feel aren't quite as good as the certified products.

Inserts:  Matt Ryan, decent looking card for an insert.

Jersey Card:  Reggie Wayne, not too shabby.  Listen, most likely a future HOFer and that's never a bad thing.

Autos: I do like that these are essentially base parallels, but I only have one other thing to say about these.  Who?
Encased card: Joe McKnight /699.  I really don't know what the gold patch is from and it is listed as "prime".  Help would be appreciated.  I am actually ok with this card.  At least he somewhat plays:

Conclusion: At $120 from blowout currently, this is a dealer's choice break.  The encased "patch" auto is a nice touch and I believe there are other options such as auto printing plates and such.  As far as break go, I was certainly excited to open it and I think the odds of pulling a nice hit is decent.  Even after opeing this box, I do find myself wanting to open another.  So with that in mind, 3.5 joes out of 5 recommend this product.  Why a half a joe?  He is likely to buy.  Here is the caveat, if you are a player collector just buy the singles, BUT if you are a well healed collector, you could buy 3-5 boxes and have decent odds of pulling hte case hit.

The Ustream video doesnt have any sound for some reason.  So try playing the videos at the same time to get two angles and sound.

Another Big One Down, Should we do one more? Ok Two Big Ones Down

I need 7, yes 7 Tim Lincecum Parallel rookies to complete my 07 sets. Well, today I got 1 of them for BIN $13 shipped. May seem like a lot but in the world of set collecting the odds of pulling one is ridiculous and costs way more than $13

Tim Lincecum Black /99 - Looks like a Serious Black
The second one is for the Brown 2008 set.  This is the second one I have seen and the first one went for $28.  There is another set collector and he would have gone $28 and who knows how long it would have taken for another to show up.  $25 shipped.  To give you and idea of how hard it is to pull one of these.  ok 5 browns per case, 120 cards in set 1:24 cases.

Do any of these people know what they are talking about?

Yeah, these are Metallic.  Other acceptable answers would have been "Greenish" or Green Metallic.  Where did they get gold?  I, not know much about these, have never seen an official reference to them as "Gold".  Oh I forgot they are the "Professional Grading Authority."

2010 Topps Chrome Baseball Box Break - Red and Blue

So I was tooling around and picked up a box of Topps Chrome baseball. It was a single box and I got it super cheap. I was hoping to pick up a few colored refractors or some t206/Chicle goodness. I did slightly better than that.

I have heard of a general lack of color autos in boxes and such, well I found them.

Another target of mine

My next target or one of them, is there that much difference

So I have been  considering going vintage for a while and I bought a 53 Campy some time ago and really like it.  Anyway Jackie Robinson 53 Topps is a card I have always wanted to own.  I have been trying to figure out what my line is going to be for graded copies.  I am thinking 4,5 or 6.  Sevens get really expensive.  What say you?

PSA 3 $280

PSA 4 $175

I like this one, but my obsessive self doesn't like the chipping in the black.

PSA 5 $680

PSA 5 $295
This one smells.  It is too off center not to get an MK.

PSA 6 $399

Joy of a Completed Set - 2008 Masterpieces Football Blue /150

Yet another completed set. This one was a bit tougher to complete for some reason and had a pretty funny ending. I was down to 2 cards, Walter Payton and Joe Montana. Two Hofers. Sometimes the stars are harder to come buy and some are easier. Anyway, a few months ago Walter Payton came available and I was a bit short on cash. Thinking that another one would come available I let it go and it went for $10 shipped. Joe Montana on the other hand did not appear anywhere until December 26th. I thought it would go for a few bucks having seen a green /75 go for $15 or so. The problem was that I was in Big Sky, MT and would be on a plane when the auction ended. I put in a bid on the runway for $18 and was subsequently outbid. The card went for $23. A week or so later I acquired the Brown Franco Harris to complete that set.

Walter Payton was found in a case I opened back in December. The Montana on the other hand was more elusive. After I lost the one above, I searched and searched. Then I went on to a message board and amongst a huge huge sell/trade list was a solitary football numbered parallel, Joe Montana. I contacted the seller hoping to get a good deal and sure enough $3.70 shipped. I also picked up a Blue Steel 2007 JFK Masterpieces parallel for $1.50. I thought it was funny anyway.

2009 Upper Deck Black Football Case Group Break

2009 Upper Deck Black Football Case Break.
Here is the deal with this. There are 20 guaranteed hits and 20 basecards. But some of the base flag cards are autod. This would be a draft break. I would randomize the list and post the video on Youtube. Here is the kicker. The person that is number 1 on the first list gets first pick of any of the traditional hits. You can trade slots if you like. I then invert the list and the person that is 20th in the hit pick gets to pick first on the flag base. Any auto flag card would be considered a flag base. So most likely the person that ends up 20th in the hit pick list will get a flag auto.
Make sense?
Slots are $45.50 with $2 discount per additional slot.

A Beckett BGS Error - Masterpieces Parallel Edition - Hades / Blue Steel / Rusted / Urban Gray or Grey

The Other day I was searching for certain cards, from a certain company, from a certain set. Da Upper Deck Masterpieces.

I came upon this card.
Note the second line of the label says "Urban Gray".  I thought it odd but there is some dispute as to what a particular parallel set is called.  Remember my article here that shows Black Linen/Serious Black and Green Windsor/Green Linen.   The other confusion comes from Rusted v. Blue Steel v. Hades. They are all  /50.

Rusted:

Blue Steel

Whatever you do, don't confuse Blue Steel with Magnum, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING!

Hades:

For some unknown reason, people including COMC confuse all three with some people referring to Hades as Ionized.

Back to Beckett BGS not knowing what they are doing.  Here is an Urban Gray or Grey if you prefer for your viewing pleasure

So the question becomes, what is in that Beckett BGS holder?  Well, let's go to a post from the Daily Dimwit..  Yes that is an Artist Proof in the Holder.  From the front, the foil is a rainbow blueish/silver.

Howie Long has a Sweet Auto

Panini Contenders Hockey

At the risk of being a shill, these cards have some awesomeness on their skates.

Don't forget to win these Timeless Treasures Cards

You get four autographs per box, including at least three on-card Rookie Ticket autographs, the brand’s calling cards. Each box also will yield nine additional insert cards from a truly unique roster that includes the likes of Leather Larceny, The Great Outdoors, Against the Glass, Draft Tandems, Lottery Winners, Rookie of the Year Contenders and more.

Some of the inserts are worth a closer look:

Leather Larceny captures the game’s top puck-stoppers flashing the glove on leather stock (#’d to 1,000 with autographed versions #’d to 50).

Against the Glass acetate cards put collectors in the front row for the most bone-crunching action in sports.
The Great Outdoors will warm up collections with the best photography from one of the NHL’s signature events, the Winter Classic (#’d to 1,000 with autographed versions #’d to 50).
NHL Ink provides a pair of signatures from some of hockey’s hottest names.
Lottery Winners delivers the most coveted prospects in the sport selected over the last five years.
But arguably the most riveting and appealing inclusion of the entire product is the Golden Ticket insert, a revolutionary development in the trading card industry — 1/1 trading cards made with 11 grams of real gold.

This winter classic card is awesome.

The draft card below looks to be a sticker...not sure though.
