Collecting is hard /10 edition

Needless to say I am bored collecting these days.  I get shivers at the thought of trying to collect a set like TANG, Heritage et al.  And because supply of my favorite set has dried up I am able to collect quality and not quantity.  I've got more good news, though I am keeping my job in Central Oregon, I am no longer going to live there.  Living in a valley like the Willamette and then trying to live in the dessert just doesn't work.

So last week I promised a bit of a purchase and on Monday, it arrived though I didn't make it home to check my mail until today.  These are quite a contrast between last week's Elway and Namath but a checklist is a checklist.

Lucky for me I have no problem with patience nor staying focused.  Side note, I see so many people collect and collect and then change direction multiple times, liquidate, wash, rinse, repeat.  I don't do that.  There is a collector that had 50+ of these reds, unfortunately he is a little delusional about what these are worth.  In contrast, there's another collector that had quite a few of these and has completed the 2007 and 2008 Masterpieces baseball autos and is 3 or so short of the football set.  He started collecting the reds but I think he realized that it's a fools errand....that's where I come in.

I purchased the entire lot for $100 which is a lot but trying to pick these up piecemeal is a pain, costly and takes a long time.  Some of these I now have 2 of and when you consider that Jonathan Stewart and Desean Jackson are putting together pretty good careers, it's not too shabby.

First up is Tashard Choice....no idea what happened to him.
Then there is "Don't throw it to Stonehands!" Limas Sweed who apparently got to the NFL and couldn't actually catch the ball.
Jonathan Stewart....Oregon guy and a damn fine player.
Dennis Dixon, Oregon guy again and not a half bad QB just couldn't quite find a groove.
I almost dropped this Desean Jackson a foot before I got in the front door but realized I wasn't all the way in the house yet.
Isn't Jerome Simpson kind of doing something with his career these days?
I hear his dad was a decent athlete.
And the guy had a few parallels laying around.  People either let these go cheap or want a small fortune for them.

Al Bundy loves Bigguns

The first two seasons were magic.

So I haven't fully decided to try to complete the auto sets but if I should happen to luck into them then so be it.  I think you'll be very interested in the package that is on its way to me.  In the meantime......

I have been spending more than my share of cash lately and am in the process of buying a house.  Cards and collecting don't match. Right now I don't really have anywhere to put cards hence why my topps parallels project is on hiatus.

These two cards are a lot both in cost, rarity, and players. The Elway took some cajoling to say the least, sometimes I get beat to the punch and then have to track down the buyer and then buy it from them.

Masterpieces SSP Auto extravaganza

As I mentioned before, I am working about 3 hours away from home and have been since February.  It has really gotten in the way of me doing anything productive....like blogging and maintaining my collection.  So here are some of my auto pickups from the last few months.  It's important to keep in mind that although a card may not be super valuable it may be very hard to come by.

First up is Andruw Jones.  I pulled one of these in the 26 or so cases I opened but at that time I wasn't collecting the autos.  Bought this for $9
Next is Glavine.  This darn thing is super rare and I got it for about $25
On to Justin Morneau.  I actually have two of these as I pulled one from my first 5 boxes 7 years ago.  Couldn't pass this up for $6
Next take a ride on the D-Train.  I did pull one of these in my cases and I now own two because I picked up another one super cheap.
Derek Lee Auto Jersey graded BGS 9...Like $10 and not all that common
Not a star but dang hard to find...I've now seen 2 of these and got this for $5
And a little something for Captain, though Ware is not longer a Cowboy.  I did pay $45 or so for this but damn is it a beaut.  Numbered /10

And a bit of a comment. It amazes me how cheaply some cards can be had.  I bought this for $6 or so and was like WTF?  It's Joe Flacco.  I mean the guy has been super solid in his career and down right ridiculous in the playoffs.  Probably much better than you think.  I have no doubt that barring a major injury Flacco will be a first ballot HOF

oh and one more I picked up a few months back.
