An auto, a parallel, a patch, and a mystery box

Oh my....or something.  This damn John Kruk auto is a favorite of mine for a couple of reasons....it's John Kruk and I had purchased one of these from DA Cardworld and when they went to ship my order it was missing.  Finally tracked it down and it is one of those retired SP's, perhaps ssp's from Masterpieces.

It was $15, basically the price of a couple of packs...ma'am I'm not an athlete, I'm an autograph

Next up is a Bradshaw, not Carrie.  These Silver Masterpieces are numbered to the Jersey number of the player with the exception of people that wore #1.  These low number cards are very hard to come by.  Also, there is a collector out there that bought up a lot of these.
Next up is a Devin Hester Patch /50.  These are very difficult to come by as I think I have 7 of  them.  There are a few players that are tough as heck to find.  Greg Olson stands between me and 7 sets...I currently have 5.
The Hester was part of a decent sized lot of jerseys, patches, and autos that was listed.....poorly.  I've saved you the trouble and linked it here.  I paid $79 shipped for the lot of 68 cards.  I can get that back on them selling to Blowout for pete's sake.  I didn't actually look at the list and decided to have a bit of a surprise.  In the lot were some gems, or some cool cards in my opinion.  Here are some highlights.

A quick patch

$5 shipped for a lowly Jamarcus Russell.  I think I own about 15 of these now.  Amazes me how many of these are single color.

Everyone wants to make a profit...but they usually don't /10

As I've said before, the collection is slow going these days though I do make some pickups here and there.  Before I get to that, a special comment from Uncle Joe

I have spent thousands and thousands on Masterpieces but have no delusions about the value. I know I will never come close to recouping what I've spent but I really don't care.  I've enjoyed collecting them and from the comments that I get from all of you I can tell that some of you enjoy it almost as much as I do.

Every once in a while I find a collector that wants to sell or is giving up on collecting.  I'm usually more that happy to kick down some coin to help them out.  I'm even prone to overpaying just for the hell of it but I do have my limits.  On this occasion, the gentlemen that made a hell of a run at putting together the red /10 masterpieces football auto set gave up the ghost.  I offered to buy him out well into the four figures but he has been trying to sell his collection piecemeal because he probably thinks that I am low balling him.  Also, he tells me that he massively overpaid for some of the cards...unfortunately that isn't my problem.  He told me what he paid for a couple of the cards and he paid more than double what a $100 card should sell for...maybe triple.

In the meantime I have been watching his sales and picking up cards as they hit the price I am willing to pay.  Some of the cards I am ok pulling the trigger on because I like them.  Others, I will wait until they get to where I want them to be.  It still amazes me what people want their cards to be worth and I really can't blame them.  That's why I don't sell cards from my collection.  Without further ado, $20 each.

Ray Rice /10.  Sure he knocked his now wife out in the elevator, but from a collecting standpoint I couldn't care less what these guys do off the field.  He's had a decent career up until now.

Chris Johnson /10.  Johnson once rushed for over 2000 yards in a season and he might actually make it to 10,000 yards.  If I was Chip Kelly I might pick him up.

Just a couple

When collecting a 7 year old sets you have to expect things to get a little slow as far as availability.  It's absolutely dreadful these days trying to find anything.  However, things do pop up that I don't have or that I actively collect as many as I can find.

This Graig Nettles is actually fairly rare and someone posted it at $7 or so BIN.  I hit it immediately.  Every once in a while this happens where someone posts something way lower than what the sale price would potentially be.  For example, I picked up a Longoria (member him?) Blue /50 parallel on COMC for $20.  Those sell for $50 easy.  BTW, what ever happened to Longo?

The next card is of a certain quarter back from a certain team in a certain city...Brett FAVE-RA.  This cost me quite a bit more than the Nettles.  I think I have 8 of the 50 made of these.
Anyway, that's it.  And btw, 2016 Topps baseball looks like one of their Topps Town inserts from a few years back.
